iCal
There is quite a bit more to iCal than to file sharing collaboration. Each user may create personal or group wide calendars within the wiki. And with proper credentials, subscribe the iCal application on their computer, Touch, or iPhone to the wiki based calendar.
Getting Started
Log in to the "house" wiki, click the Calendar link at the top..
The default wiki "house" calendar appears.
Double click approximately the date-time desired for a new event. An ajaxified dialog pops up to gather the details..
Click OK and the event appears on the calendar. It may then be reviewed or revised at any time by any other member of this wiki group with a double-click of the entry.
Adding a Calendar
Click the "+" sign in the lower left corner to add a new calendar. Once again, an ajaxified box appears to gather the specifics.
Subscribing in iCal on a Client Machine
More ajax. Hover the mouse over the named calendar in the left pane and a stylized and ghostly "i" appears.
Clicking the "i" pops the Calendar Settings dialog box which includes a "Subscribe in iCal-->" link.
Click the link..
.. and an iCal subscribe dialog appears with the proper calendar URL autofilled. Click Suscribe, fill in the details..
And verify the newly subscribed calendar in the left pane of the iCal application.
Private Calendar on the Wiki
Instead of using the "house" calendar, go to "My Page" using the link in the upper right corner of the window.
Note that the icon in the upper left corner of the wiki page then displays your image, rather than the group wiki "house" image.
Other than that, adding and editing events, subscribing calendars is all the same.
Since each calendar gets a randomly assigned GUID for the webcal url, it is virtually impossible for anyone to accidentally or intentionally subscribe your private calendar without logging in to your private My Page on the wiki to get the details.
If you intentionally want someone to be able to subscribe to your private calendar, send them the webcal url which they may use to subscribe their ical client app to your private calendar. There are other ways of "delegating" access to calendars. It can be as simple or as complex as the needs dictate.
Most importantly, always remember that "house" group calendars are editable by anyone in the "house" group. Regardless of naming conventions for calendars in the group. Creating and naming calendars in the house group after each member of the group serves organizational purposes only. Every calendar in the "house" group is freely editable, deletable, subscrib-able by all in the "house" group. Being the original creator carries no special access privileges in a group wiki calendar!
